Reynolda Gardens at Wake Forest University

The Water Lily Garden is one of my favorites at Reynolda Gardens

The name of this rose is Walking on Sunshine.

This is Love and Peace.
Right before my eyes, the bottom three petals released and fell to the ground.

This beauty was starting to encroach onto the pathway and seemed to nearly jump out in front of me.

It's no wonder to me that Monet did a Water Lily series, which included over 250 oil paintings.

The statue in front of Reynolda House Museum of American Art. I have taken many, many photos of this seemingly strong lady. Though the statue has remained unchanged, each photo seems completely different and with it's own personality.

This guy came as a surprise! High up in a tree, this was my first time noticing him.

The fountain at the boathouse on Lake Katharine. The Gardens are filled with fountains, most with lion heads as the spout. This one, long unused, was broken at the nose, with a trail of water damaged concrete running below.

This guy, a dragonfly? Chilling out on a blade of grass.

To put into perspective how small the butterfly was, the little flowers behind him are about as big as your thumbnail.

Water Lilies touch my heart. They have different meanings in different cultures, but universally they are know to represent life and love, enlightenment and rebirth.

Project 365: Day 28, Daughter

Hung out with my older daughter yesterday.

She's eight.

She's good at school.  She loves to read.  She loves to climb.
And she sleeps with a gaggle of teddy bears every night.

She also wants to be a model.

Love this girl to pieces.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday: Outside, Backside, Little Things, A Cup of, Reflect

Outside...
My girls enjoying  the outside on one of the few warm (and sunny) days we've had all week.
Backside...
The view from the backside of the house.  Sunrise, with a sliver of moon still shining.

Little Things...
Even in the dead of winter, we're hanging clothes out on the line.  Not because I'm super green, because the dryer's broken and it's not high on the list of things to spend money on.  During the summer I enjoy hanging the clothes on a line.  During the winter... ehhh, not so much.
A Cup of...
We used to make pancakes every Saturday for breakfast.  We slid out of that tradition a couple of years ago, but for Christmas I got a waffle maker and it has gotten a lot of use in the last couple of weeks!
Reflect....
This one was tough for me.  I kept feeling like "reflect" should represent something I was reflecting on in my life, but then ~~ wa-lah!  You're going to have to go here to see what these trees are reflecting through.  I'll admit it, I went a little nuts on this one.

Project 365: January 10, 2013, Day 10

I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.

My lens has been focused towards the sky quite a bit this week.  This photo was taken about 8am, the sun beating through the thick clouds (screaming through, it seemed, the sun was bright) with the beautiful Carolina blue sky waiting for full exposure.  This photo is SOOC.

Project 365: January 7, 2013: Day 7

After enlightenment, the laundry.  ~~ Zen proverb

Even in the dead of winter, I dry clothes on the line outside.  Luckily, I live in a place that is usually sunny, we get very little snow, the rain is sparse, and though we have cold nights, the temperature is usually bearable by lunchtime.

In the summertime, I enjoy hanging the clothes.  Winter... ehhh, not so much.

While it is ecologically correct and I like knowing that I'm doing my part to save the earth, that is not why I do it.   I do it because... the dryer is broken.
