Snow is pretty rare in our part of North Carolina, and everyone gets excited when it comes! We actually had a
thundersnow, which is even rarer. Thunder, lightning and snow all at once. Strange, amazing, and oh so cool. We ended up with close to 3" at our house, but this
is North Carolina and it is fast melting. The sun is out, the sky is blue. After a week of gray skies and rain, this is such a nice change.
The best part? In our neck o' the woods,
everything shuts down when it snows. The grocery store shelves are emptied of bread, milk and eggs (french toast, anyone?) and we prepare to hunker down. Sounds silly, I know. But that's just the way it is here "in the South". Soooo, school was cancelled (SNOW DAY) and I spent the morning with the girls playing in the snow -- quick! before it melts!

Last night, as the snow started falling |
|
The snow was melting so quickly off of the top branches that it seemed to be raining. |

And this little guy was hanging out in our front yard. |
Gorgeous, Jessica! Your bird pic is amazing! Our daughter lives in Lenoir NC but I haven't talked to her yet to see what they "got." My husband wanted to drive up to Davidson College last night to see them play his alma mater, The Citadel, but in the end he didn't dare risk it. We only had torrential rain and howling winds! It was lovely! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the snow flakes a t night! And I love the birds on the snow covered branches. I grew up in NC and so remember the snow days - here today, melted tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteso great, how you captured the snowflakes! all the pics are stunning :)
ReplyDeleteThe bird on that snowy branch is extraordinary!
ReplyDeleteI love wet, heavy snow that clings to the branches like this. So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow, so beautiful. I'd love to experience a thunder snow at least once :-). Thank you for stopping by Pret-a-Vivre and allow me to discover your world.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. Love the snow at night!
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious bird - great photos! We live in SC and traveled to NC to visit my parents this weekend. Only a little bit of snow was left by the time we got here, but it was enough to thrill my kids :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures of the winter. Lovely bird:)
DeleteWOW, wow and wow... I love all your photos but especially the last one. Snow and birds are my favourites :D - I am happy for you that you had time to make photos of it all as it is melting that fast.. Thanks for showing
